With apologies to vampire bats

So President Bush is worried about human-animal chimerae: Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research, human cloning in all its forms, creating or implanting embryos for experiments, creating human-animal hybrids, and buying, selling, or patenting human embryos. Human life is a gift from our Creator -- and that gift should never be discarded, devalued or put up for sale. Well, Mr. Bush, aside from the fact that such a law would prevent the cloning of human genes into bacterial or viral vectors, thus crippling biomedical research for decades to come, I think you should clean house before implementing such a policy. You may begin with your Vice President. D.

Did you get that right? Are you sure he didn't say "American Human life is a gift from our Creator...?

Kate is DA BOMB.

I think bats are kind, meek creatures that nurture their young. That would kinda disqualify Cheney on three counts.

You MUST go watch this video. Immediately. It's old but what the heck. First part's better than the rest.

Maureen, haven't you noticed that Dumbya can't get through a single sentence without a mistake? Well, there ya go.

Blue gal, yup, that's why I apologized to the bats ;o)

Kate: thanks for the link. That was great -- should be mandatory viewing for all Americans.

On the subject of animals, this is making the email rounds today:

This year Both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union Address fell on the same day.

It is an ironic juxtaposition: one involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication, and the other involves a groundhog.

Disclaimer: Does not apply in Muslim nations or states filled with brown people. "Precious human life" is defined as the pre-born and those on feeding tubes. All others need not apply.

Whaat? I'm in a mood.

Also, the ban on man-imals is a good thing. It would remove the Chimp-eror from the Oval office.

If you want to refute all reasonable arguments in favour of cloning, (let's see, skin for burn victims, islets for diabetics, just off the top of my minutely informed lay-person's head), of course you have to introduce a possibility so outrageous, so obscene, that to defend cloning is is beyond monstrous.
It's their standard operating procedure.
I mean The American Fascist Act isn't nearly as defensible as The Patriot Act, now is it? And their arguments to keep that in place have little to do with the merits of the act so much as the ethical turpitude of its opponents.
Going to impose a controversial decision? Explain it in terms of faith so that opposing it is tantamount to attacking that faith.
I have to give the administration credit for using the 'sword and shield' argument to great effect. (9/11 anyone?)
We haven't seen the last of this phrase. Whipping up fear of the 'manimal' will be the standard spin against proponents of cloning.

bwaahahahahaaaa I wonder if someone showed shrub the picture of the mouse with the ear seen here to convince him it's already happening.

Sorry I couldn't find the picture alone, but maybe the small words might help Shrub understand, waddaya think?
