Number 500: a giveaway
Yup, this is my 500th post. I'd like to celebrate by giving away a copy of one of my favorite books, Jorge Luis Borges' Collected Fictions. If you already own it, or if you despise Borges, let me know, and I'll send you a gift certificate instead.
The rules are easy. In the comments, tell me how you found your way here the very first time. I know the answer for some of you (the BBSers), but for most of you, I haven't a clue -- and I'm curious.
Tomorrow night at this time, I'll write down the names of the commenters and draw one at random. The winner will need to email me with his or her snail mail addie.

Congratulations Doug! I can't believe you've got so many posts. I'm wondering when you find the time to write so much with all that you do.
I think I found you as I was surfing through the "next blog" option, but then again, I may have found you through Lentula Vitae. Ah, jeez, I can't remember. I just know that I liked your writing and I thought you were funny too.
I'll bet you found me via Jona. Thanks ;o)
I found you through Smart Bitches. It's so very girly.... No! Wait! I meant bitchy, as in, being made up of only females, that I simply had to follow the link back when a guy posted a funny and perspicacious comment. Glad to have done so.
WSS* about how I found your blog.
Congrats on 500 posts, Doug.
*What Suisan Said.
I followed back a comment you made over at the Fanatic Cook's site.
I can't remember for sure, but I think I pointed you at Blogger, and then you told me you'd set up a new blog at such and such an address, and inside a week you'd outstripped me for number of posts, and I sat back and watched in jealous admiration as you found the networking power of blogging. Congratulations on the big five-oh-oh, Doug! I'd bake a cake, but my sister just made me a bunch of cookies...
I'm a sucker for a giveaway, but if you pull my name it's not fair, so feel free to throw it back.
You KNOW how I found your blog. Congratulations on the 500th and the success you have had in getting so many readers.
Congratulations, Doug. I found your blog through Smart Bitches- the hot spider sex quotes, I believe.
Congrats!
If I'm not mistaken, I think I found you because you were a commenter on my blog.
I have no bloody idea. Really, I don't. I couldn't find my car keys this morning and almost forgot to feed the horse.
The origin of my repeat blog offenders is beyond my ken.
I found you after I joined Tangent and was perusing the list of reviewers.
I think you were whoring over at the BBS.
I don't remember for sure, but I think I was clicking the little blue links in the names of PBW's commenters.
I thought you were funny, so I added you to my Favorites, and got up the nerve to comment a couple of times [weird, I know, but I suffer from 'cyberspace shyness.'
There are some blogs I read every day and still can't get up enough nerve to comment. I have no idea why, but there you go.]
And then you were kind enough to teach me about reciprocal links, HTML tags, and uploading pictures, which was clearly above and beyond. Now I come over here every day to see what you're up to.
Congratulations on 500, Doug. That's pretty awesome!
Reichsminister, Little Green Fascists is HIGHLY offensive, so VERY offensive that I want everyone here to go take a look for themselves right now!
Man oh man. And I thought Jesus' General was a right wing nut job. You guys take the cake!
Hey, you found me! And I'm so glad you did, it's been great fun reading your blog and getting to know you!

Congratulations, Doug!
I'm pretty sure I found you via Beth's blog. She doesn't have a link, I think, but you posted for Smart Bitches Day, and I've been coming back to see what you have to say ever since.
If memory serves, I believe I found you via Smart Bitches.
Congratulations, Mr. Hoffman --

For what it's worth, I was able to find my first comment written on Dec. 31st of this past year (why rewrite when copy/paste is so efficient?)

I saw your comment on BlondeSense a while ago & followed the "Tarantula" URL to read the "Traitor" story. I was interested in reading more, but could find no evidence of later entries.
Then, noting your apparent relationship, I tried your homepage URL at BlondeSense. It only opened a new HoloScan window identical to the one I "started" from. A check in that page's source gave me "the directions" to get here.
Anyway, having arrived, I think I'll spend some time over the next few days & "try you on" — your readers' comments are intriguing. But, I'm also interested, as I said, in reading more about your wife's history. I'm betting the child she's holding has something to do w/ her not publishing anything recently?
As it turns out, the "trying on" has become a usual once a day "lurk," as well as including a quick check over at Shelblog & Blue Gal -- "found" herel.
Haha you don't need to enter me, but I found you through PBW's site.
~Sapph.
I'm feeling lazy tonight (exhausted, more like)so I'm going to let this run until tomorrow morning.
Thanks, everyone, for your kind comments!
Do I get to enter? If so, you told me yourself :o)
Of course you get to enter. I was waiting for you, silly.
(Of course, now if you win, it'll look like the fix is in ;o)
That's it, folks! Entries are closed. Shelbi's our winner ;o)
Oh wow! How cool is that? So, um, what was I supposed to do again? Oh, nevermind, I just looked it up.
Address is forthcoming.
Thanks Doug!
