Aid for New Orleans
If I get started on a rant, I'm going to stroke out. I've tried to keep my mouth shut about this because (A) this isn't a political blog, and (B) I've never been very good at expressing political opinions.
I'll focus on what matters. Here's where we made our donation:
America's Second Harvest, the Nation's Food Bank Network
They promise that 100% of your donation will go to disaster relief efforts. The American Red Cross, of course, is another worthy agency.
At least I'm not alone in my fury. Over at Daily Kos, there's a pertinent article concerning the President's approval rating with respect to his handling of the disaster. Guess what: he's tanking.
Impeachment, anyone?

I actually cut the Powers That Be a bit of slack. . .This disaster is worse than anything in living memory in this country. They hadn't been tested before.
BUT THEN the president gave those goverment types a good scolding.... Excuse me? What happened to The Buck Stops Here? And isn't he responsible for crud like this http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-050831corps-story,1,2364215.story?coll=chi-news-hed&ctrack=1&cset=true
If he's gonna bring politicking...grrr.
I'm not inclined to cut them any slack. Sorry. There aren't enough National Guard in Louisiana -- why? SELA didn't have the funds to modernize the levees -- why? Essentially no Federal response to this disaster beforehand, even though everyone saw it coming -- why? Because the Powers That Be don't care about the poor.
The Canadian Armed forces are just waiting to be asked - we've made the offer - and the Disaster Assistance Response Team has been put on one hour notice to leave Kingston and head to New Orleans. We've offered generators, helicopters, and to establish water purification systems in the area.
When your leaders pull their ridiculous heads out of their ridiculous bottoms, could someone please tell them the rest of the world wants to help?.
You'll want to know that the verification word I have to type in to post this comment is fzyfuk.
Beat that.
Canada? Canada? I thought we were at war with Canada.
Blame Canada! Blame Canada!
Ahem. Our fearless leader has his head so far up his bottom it has popped out his neck again. Devious, eh?
Fzyfukkingly yours,
Doug
Nope - we aren't at war, Doug. You'll have to stop getting your information from cartoons.
However, it occurs to me that with our troops lined up, unwanted, along the border, all someone needs to do is say "Aw fuck it, let's invade them instead..."
It's not like Bush could coordinate a response.
I'm kidding of course (aren't you glad we're peace-keepers and not war-mongers?), but don't you wonder who else is out there watching this mass incompetence in leadership, thinking now's the time?
You're right, Maureen, and yes,I had thought about that. Perhaps not from Canada . . .
The French. They'll invade. You just see.
I got news for you, Doc- This is a political blog.
And one of the better small blgos out there.
Keep up the good work.
